About 3 years ago, i was wondering why is Americana selling their salads and sandwhiches in Coop and is there a market for such fresh 3 day expiry products. Today there are about 4 companies competing in the same segment. Diet care, low fat, Americana and Lina’s and Dina’s and more are coming for sure. Just a little stat, Americana delivered to the Coop an average of 50 pieces/Coop and that got all sold in the first 2 days.  So there are people going to Coops and buying such food items, maybe for work or school.

When you next time see the products displayed in the Coops check out the price differnces between them.

Tesco homeplus opened a virtual grocery store in a south korea subway station, where users shop by scanning QR codes on their smartphones

Billboard depicting actual supermarket shelves

A large, wall-length billboard was installed in the station, designed to look like a series of supermarket shelves and displaying images and prices of a range of common products. each sign also includes a QR code. users scan the code of any product they would like to purchase, thereby adding it to their online shopping cart. after the web transaction is completed, the products are delivered to the user’s home within the day.

the strategy makes productive use of commuters’ waiting time, while simultaneously saving shoppers time spent going to the supermarket.

I always try to analyze stuff, like why business fail, or new trends emerge and i surely find an answer, but! with the mini’s I cant.

Why is anything resized in a smaller way nice! I cant stop thinking about it and could not find anything, I know some will say because its cute, but cute to me sells for a couple of days then people should get used to the cute thing.

Anyways I have met Abdulla Al Khanji the owner of Mini Delights, a very enthusiastic and smart fellow. Knows nothing about food before he started out, but truly passionate. He is like these 6 million sold books around the world kinda thing, which makes you wana quit your job and open a business strait away from his stories. I think Abdulla was a major mini introducer to Kuwait, after the success of Mini Delights.

Anyways now the mini craze is everywhere, and to be honest it’s not Kuwait only, many restaurants abroad use this mini approach.

I like how a big dull company like Khazan meat has moved fast and made their own mini sliders, that’s a good move from such large company who produce the same thing in and out daily.

I have no real preference when buying juice to drink in the mornings but there is one thing i noticed, the Juice Content. So i will ask you this: KDD pineapple juice advertises on the pack that its 100% juice which sounds nice especially when you pay 150 fils for it. But hold on a second, the other KDD juices do not advertise anything else on the pack? Cranberry KDD juice sez on the side of the pack that its juice content is “min 12%” !!?? so it seems they assure us that it has 12% juice but what about the rest 88% (water akeed). So how about we be fair and pay only 12% of the 150 fils which is 18 fils to be exact!

Many of KDD juices do not provide 100% juice in there contents and I’m just pointing out this because next time when you buy juice for your self, look for the percentage of juice content.

The rotten food debacle in Kuwait nearly made me became a vegetarian, i really stopped liking to eat chicken or meat and feel very disgusted when i do. Because all of this bad press about rotten food. At last now Kuwaitnews has posted the names of these companies that are selling rotten food, check out the names:

Sultan Center CompanyAlzaad CompanyPetra CompanyThese are the major companies that have been named; there are more in the link above. We really need an explanation from these companies because they are well established and old companies in Kuwait!! I thank Kuwaitnews for publishing the names, because i cant seem to see any other newspaper that did!

What i really loved in the small to big programme in the UK is that they took us on start-up tours, i was really excited to leave class and see real companies and start-ups. After a three days of class session, we where taken to a small start-up company called, fruitful office.

Before i continue writing about fruitful office the professors teaching us there was really great, Prof Taz. He set up the course to show us different entrepreneurs and how they operate. From the professional to the  new to the filed of entrepreneurship, his way of showing us that there are many kinds of entrepreneurs out there, and they are all wanting to get some action.

Fruitful office is a simple idea and run by ex-bankers, the

professional entrepreneurs. They sell fruit basket to office’s in central London. Their pitch: free fruit to your staff makes them better employees and less sick leave days. So companies all over London started providing free fruit basket for their staff. But one important addition to the business was the London campaign for eating fruits. Its called the 5 a day campaign. Will discuss more in later posts. need to keep you guys coming , moo? :P

Pictures below are from the fruitful office company.

Why are we so into consumerism and collecting stuff, why? i dont really know why psychologically we are so but when i see Kuwaiti products like the kitco chips (BTW they have put less chips inside the bags now, and the potato wafer is thinner)  and how unhealthy they are, why not others come to think about producing healthy chips. Why are we always thinking of importing them (Kuwait entrepreneurs i mean) . Remember if you import them then you dont have a price edge to compete. I’ll give you an example, firefly juice: its freaking expensive about 1.2KD a piece.

You see the guy who imported it was thinking wow this is a nice alternative to soda’s why not import it to Kuwait; 1.2KD for bottled drink is high, screw that idea. Then the next thought should come to mind why not make it in Kuwait, now multiply your thought with most things that you consume daily. These chips like Kitco and other, drinks like firefly etc etc.

I have tried Vitamian water, and i think its fine. Gives you your daily nutritial needs and water at the same time. But importing it would be costly, how about producing it in Kuwait, how hard is it?

Walking around salmiya my self and friends started chatting about Kurdo and how successful he is and how he is growing rapidly, sometimes having two stores on the same street like Salem Mubarak street and Shari3 el ma6a3em (maybe he is following Starbucks strategy:P) . But at the beginning i thought he is like any other restaurateur, a couple of stores here and there and thats the end. But i was surprised to see products under the Kurdo brand in the coops and Geant, to me that is smart. I guess now he wants to go retail and especially he has the resources to do so. He has the raw material (food), logistics (cars) and manpower ( Egyptions) J/k:P

ohhh my sexy fingers are showing:P

Does McDonald’s food decompose?

As much as i hate large corporation that kill your next door local shop, their Kuwaiti branch of McDonald’s does decompose.  Well it took a while thou: from the 17th till the 23rd of October (six days) but at the end it did go bad. Look clearly at the pics and you will see some white stuff, both on the burger and fries. It was clear fungus.

Have a good one:)

The original post below:

http://io81.com/health/2010/10/mcdonald-food-decompose/

Well i know this has nothing to do with business but its interesting, i was checking my email on yahoo and saw this piece about how McDonald food does not decompose. So i figured out why not try it. I bought a burger and fries, no ketchup or the other sauces so my test lab (the basement) wont smell. You should have seen how the server at Mcdonalds looked at me, “that’s it” nothing else. He was not use too small orders i guess, typical order at the diwaniya:

3 double cheese burgers

2 quarter pounder meals

3 Big mac meals

2 six pieces nuggets

and all diet cokes:P

Anyways i will be posting and taking photos each couple of days to see the progress of the decomposition of the burger and fries and see if its true that the food at McDonald does not decompose, maybe its the American one that does not decompose. Time will tell!

Man! if this thing does not rot then we need to start a movement!
