Everyday while i drive back home from work, i listen to the only 88.8 and look at the ads on the road. Most ads out there suck, but at least its something to look at and mock :p. So today as i drove back home ! there were no ads ?! almost all the ads were off the billboards and megacom’s. I heard a couple of rumors billboard prices went up by around double their original price. could this be the reason why these Ad-spaces are empty now ? or is it some new award winning Media-Stunt / publicity-stunt ?

Noticed that too….what’s the scoop people!

I doubt they doubled their price…….that seems silly!

Basically every 5 years they have a bidding on the outdoor media. The previous winners were Warba and Concord but now they both lost to this other person.

So now everything is shifting from one company to another so there will be no out door advertising until the beginning of next month.

I didn’t hear about the price doubling. I heard at max it will go up 30%.

Yeah but a couple billboards still have their ads on, the ones on fahaheel express way ( road 30) NBK, Gulfbank, Chevy and a couple others. I assume their contracts are yearly and they didn’t finish yet.

but it kind of felt weird not having any Ads bombarding you while u drive. Ad Agencies should consider doing some media-stunt like that, having no ads for a while, then bringing back the ads on the outdoors with a line saying “SAVE PAPER” :p

ill check about the prices and update

that is true…prices did double this year (from 6,000 to 12,000), and also during this time of year, form what ive heard is that they open up the floor to those companies that are intrested in buying a spot/s.

in no time you’ll starting seeing ads go up…. :)

  6. Mark says:

No its not true. The prices did not get doubled. As of now no prices have been released under the new ownership.

They certainly make the street look awful…more like a ghost town.

As I understand it municipality has five bids every THREE years (not five) for Al3asima, Hawali, Mbarak Alkabeer, Farwaniya and Ahmidi. And I didn’t hear of the prices doubling. Each bid is a separate deal for each province.

No media stunt or anything like that….If you ask me, i think the people that come up with these stupid and dreadful adds, like “Yabeela…” and the nasty Hardees adverts with weird quotes, just ran out of more stupid ideas :P
In my opinion, i think they make outdoor media look like a joke, and should ban those ads all together!

  10. lace camisole says:

then maybe they removed all the ads..cos the ad agencies here ran out of more dumb ad ideas..hahahah…i intered in an ad agency here in kuwait..and its really sad how lame they are…comming up with something like “YABEELA” made a huge hit here..com’on ppl…go outside and see how the real ads are done in the west!!!
