I have always admired the concept of the Sandwich bar, the ones like Pret in the UK. I had created many plans and studies to open up such a place, i’ll explain the concept: its a store/grocery you walk in go the open fridge and pick up your sandwich of choice, then pick a fruit maybe or a bag of dried berries then to the counter to pay. Some may think that this kind of store would never work here in Kuwait, to counter such thinking i have been studying the sale numbers of Americana bad a#$ tasting sandwiches in the co-op. And the problem is that they get sold really fast, sometime all the quantity within the first day, we may all have atleast tried the sandwiches once. Now think about it, who goes to the co-op to buy a sandwich from Americana, and they taste bad too. So i guess there is a hidden untapped market for a sandwich bar in Kuwait. Imagine this eating tasty clean sandwiches made fresh in the morning for the same day serving and if there was extra at the end of the day, they should be given to the needy. The last time i was in the UK, when i visited Pret i was amazed with the introduction of fruits, i know it does not sound that wow! but think of a restaurant in Kuwait or anywhere for that matter that sells one banana or an apple. It is telling you in an indirect way to eat clean and healthy food, the design of the store is a mix stainless steal and maroon colors. See now what i have talked about is the outside now take a look into the inside, just to make you imagine the store, its like the starbucks of sandwiches. When a new member is being recruited to work in Pret, he gets into the normal HR filtering then get sent to the branch, at this point he is under a trial period, from there he is being tested how good he can work under pressure and with a team, and at the end of the month the staff who accept him into the company are the his peers at the same branch not top management. That is an amazing concept! Pret management monitor the sandwiches most sold and least sold, the even have sandwich like “The Crayfish is Back” because they stopped selling a certain sandwich which after a while they noticed that some small number of people there still want the crayfish sandwich. What i’m saying looks simple but when your handling 125 stores and increasing this becomes a very hard task compared for the small amount of customers you are satisfying. So what do you folks think would such a store work in Kuwait? in share3 el ma6a3m maybe:P dont think so..

It wouldn’t work. I eat those bad-@$$ tasting Americana’s regularly, because I usually leave to jam3a in a hurry so I don’t eat breakfast and end up passing by the fer3 to get something quick to eat.
It will be competing with Subway (i.e. tough competition).
If it costs 3 times as much as an Americana, ppl will just buy the Americana.

I am actually thinking of a business plan at the moment, The sandwich bar thing crossed my mind once, but i just dont feel it would work in kuwait. If some one opens Pret in kuwait, i think it would be succesful, however a cafe with the same concept would not be as succesful. I think the name plays a major role in kuwait.

lfc-q8: you mean competitors, 3ady its a free market and everybody has to play smart to gain more customer
EniGma: why did you assume it will be more than American by three times, maybe even the same…okay slighty more;P
Hasan.B: Names lure in people fast, but when you produce something you gotta really work hard to make the name stand out, compare it with KrespyKreme and Gonuts Donuts.
